Bgy. Kilikilihan, San Miguel, Catanduanes

HISTORY

Barangay Kilikilihan, formerly known as "Sitio Quiliquilihan," which was once a part of Bato, derived its name from the word "pailihan," a bicol term which means "evacuation" since it is a safe evacuation place for the nearby villagers during strong typhoons.

It was first inhibited by the early mountaineers and the part of the Malayan race that were pushed to the open valley with the coming of the Spanish Colonizers.

Early villagers lives simple and grew prosperous. They started cutting down trees to grow abaca, the number one product of Catanduanes.  Soon the hills of Kilikilihan were covered by abaca and coconut trees.

Formerly, a sitio of Quiliquilihan, San Miguel, Bato became a full pledge Barangay Kilikilihan when San Miguel separated from its mother town Bato through then President Elpidio Quirino's Executive Order No. 803 dated August 23, 1952, together with 11 other barangays under the new Municipality of San Miguel, Catanduanes.

Since its emancipation in 1952, Barangay Kilikilihan is now sixty-three years old. The reign of government was handed down through political choice. The first Capitan del Barrio was Mr. Suelo Teves.

The frequent hits of strong typhoons and natural calamities caused Barangay Kilikilihan to be left behind of development and progress. But through the dynamic and hopeful individuals of Kilikilihan who untiringly strive can easily recovered with the aid of local and national government. The positive outlook and the proper utilization of natural resources transformed Barangay Kilikilihan from the limbo of backwardness into the light and aura of dynamic activities and achievements.

Barangay Kilikilihan is located at the Mid-part of San Miguel and Catanduanes. It is bounded on the north by the Sitio of Guinobat, Balatohan, on the east by the Barangay of Pacogon, on the west by the Municipality of Virac and on the south by the Barangay of Mabato.

Based on the 2007 census, it has a population of 1,059. It has a total land area of approximately 1000 hectares. Barangay Kilikilihan geograpical location has the following orientation in terms of coordinates: 13o42'11" N Latitude and 124o16'55" E Longitude.

The present Barangay Captain is Mr. Larry Bernal Jr. who was the successor of  Mr. Paquito Tanon.
